M/s Finlandia is being renewed at the shipyard – Environmental responsibility is part of the daily business
M/s Finlandia's exterior is being prepared for maintenance and painting work.
Eckerö Line's m/s Finlandia is at the shipyard until 8 February 2024. Large scale structural changes that reduce fuel consumption and emissions will be made during docking. M/s Finlandia returns to service on 8 February and departures at 15:15 from Helsinki to Tallinn. While m/s Finlandia is at the dock, our cargo ship m/s Finbo Cargo, which also transports motor vehicles, operates as usual from Vuosaari harbour in Helsinki to Muuga in Tallinn.
During docking, major structural reforms are especially invested in to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, taking into account even more environmentally friendly traffic. However, considering the well-being of the environment has been a part of our usual everyday life and daily activities for years. The ship's cruising speed is optimized so that fuel consumption and consequently carbon dioxide emissions are as small as possible. Also divers clean the ship's underwater hull regularly, which helps to reduce fuel consumption.
Energy efficiency is promoted with various technical solutions. The waste heat from the ship's engines and the temperature of the seawater are utilized in the ventilation and heating systems as energy. When m/s Finlandia stays longer at night in the ports of Tallinn and Helsinki, the ship is connected to shore power. During that time, the ship's diesel powered auxiliary engines do not need to produce the energy the ship needs. Using shore power improves air quality and reduces noise in the harbour area.
In our daily operations, we want to bear our responsibility for the cleanest possible maritime traffic.
