Potential exposure to measles on the Eckerö Line M/s Finlandia ferry on 7th January 2025
According to the Finnish National Institute of Health and Welfare (THL), a person infected with measles has travelled on the Eckerö Line M/s Finlandia ferry from Tallin to Helsinki on Tuesday 7th January, between 18.30–21.00. During the travel, this person may have infected others with measles.
A traveller should check his/her vaccination status and childrens’ as well. Having had measles or receiving two doses of measles-containing vaccine (Measles, MR, MMR) provides good protection against the disease. If a traveller is unvaccinated or unsure the vaccination status, or do not know if has previously had measles, please contact local healthcare provider as soon as possible to arrange vaccinations as necessary.
If you develop symptoms compatible to measles within three weeks of the travel date, seek a medical advice by calling your local healthcare provider first. Typical symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose, and often conjunctivitis, followed by rash 3-5 days after the initial symptoms. In case of illness, please provide information included in this letter to the treating physician.
For further advice and information about measles, please consult local public health authority.
